I was in your shoes last year! Honestly, it's easier than you think – Australia's basically cashless, so I just used my Revolut card everywhere and it worked fine. Apple Pay is accepted almost everywhere too. For cash, I'd avoid airport exchanges (terrible rates) and independent ATMs (they sting you with fees). I used Commonwealth Bank ATMs – no extra charges. Oh, and check https://znaki.fm/ie-en/currencies/australian-dollar/ – it's an Irish site that helped me understand the AUD and why the exchange rate moves. Also, don't stress about tipping, nobody expects it there. Have an amazing trip!
